Ingredients for Homemade Laundry Detergent
Ingredients for Homemade Laundry Detergent

Good Morning Friends…I pray you are all having a Lovely morning. Here in Northern Nevada, it is beautiful. Sunny, warm (not too hot), and less windy. It is summer and things are busy around here. Life kind of side tracked me and I have not been as forward moving in my journey to use less plastic.

When I broke my wrist last year, my sweet daughter bought a huge container of laundry pods to make it easier to do laundry. They are now gone. I used the last one. I had thought of making homemade laundry detergent for awhile. I had researched and tried different recipes. Didn’t like any of them. They all left a soapy residue on my clothes, because the bar soap did not dissolve completely.

Then I found this Pin on Pinterest. Of course, I pinned and then I visited Delightful Creations. Her recipe intrigued me because it used Castile soap instead of the other soap called for in different recipes.

I made half a recipe as an experiment to see what I thought of it. I LOVE it. Have been using it for three weeks now. The castile soap dissolves and there is no residue on my clothes. Also it smells great. I discovered when I went to make the detergent, I was out of Lavender Essential Oil, so I left it out and it still smells great.

No more plastic laundry detergent containers for me. I did reuse the container the pods were in to hold the new detergent and will use it until it falls apart. The plastic wrapper the Castile soap was in I used for a science experiment with my grandson. We learned about how different things (paper, the soap wrapper, a cotton ball, a rock, a charcoal briquet, a twig, a leaf) burned and how fast. He is 9, almost 10.

Besides making some more products to replace plastic containers in my home and doing some DIY replacement things in the kitchen, I have been working on the garden and yard, adding products to my Etsy shop VintageBeckyM like a mad woman. My goal has been to add 100 products to the shop a week until everything not listed is in the shop for sale. Last week, I made my goal. This week, I did not.
